Word Wednesday by KM Wilsher

It seems like every study I hear/do this week, the discussion is a reminder about our armor.

Eph 6:10-17 (NIV) ...Be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on the full armor of God so that you can take your stand against the devil's schemes. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled round your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. The belt of truth-The breastplate of righteousness-The shield of faith-The helmet of salvation- The sword of the Spirit.

As I've been thinking about this, clothing ourselves with armor, how much more Christian Fantasy can you get? You know how much I like Fantasy - Lord of the Rings, Reign of Fire, Firefly and my friend Avily Jerome just turned me on to the "Wheel of Time" series -WOW! And let's not forget 'Remnants' by KM Wilsher --- my WIP 'Remnants' is Christian Fantasy! (The first chapter can be accessed along the right hand side of this page)

But back to the Armor of God. A joyful Joyce Meyer asked her audience this week, "Did anyone stand in front of the closet this morning and the clothes just flew off the hanger and on to your body?"
Of course the audience answered, "No."
She then to went on to highlight the verbs in this series BUCKLE the belt of truth; PLACE the breastplate of righteousness; FIT your feet with readiness; TAKE up your shield, the helmet, and the sword of the Spirit.

It just reminded me there is more than just remembering my armor; I must remember to put it on. So how does one 'put on' Spiritual armor? I think we all know that the spiritual battle never ceases. I must pray without ceasing. I must Love and love some more, overcoming evil with good and I must be in ongoing conversation with Jesus. I must remember to clothe myself with armor. I heard the famous Sister Theresa stopped every thirty minutes to pray.

By the way, the King James version is much more "FANTASY" Ephesians 6:10-17
10Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might.
11Put on the whole armour of God that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.
12For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.
13Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.
14Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness;
15And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace;
16Above all, taking the shield of faith, where with ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked.
17And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.

I heard the absolute best quote that deals with fighting off Satan. (I actually wrote about it on my blog yesterday.)

It was this: "Don't allow Satan to remind you of what God's already forgotten."

Is that great mental armor or what?

Great post, KM. Many a day I walk around spiritually naked, wondering why in the world God is allowing me to suffer so.

"Put your clothes on," He says.

the best part - to me - that God is the one who powers the armor. and then i have the privilege to stand and fight because of the authority Christ gave me through his death, resurrection, and ascension. wow.

This is a great passage. And I also like the old King James version here! Very epic!

And I didn't know you had your work in progress posted here...gosh, if I can find a little extra time, I gotta check it out.

Brandon! I like the term 'epic' for the King James version -- great adjective :)
