Star Trek by KM Wilsher

This movie was amazing. Eric Bana as Nero the Romulan villain. :*

A young McCoy, Scotty, Sulu, Chekov - It is an amusement park ride through a past with a changing future--- and never feels overdone!

If you haven't seen it, go! The synopsis is just below, but don't read any farther. Then come back and discuss this extraordinary film!

Synopsis from Movie Web:
The greatest adventure of all time begins with "Star Trek," the incredible story of a young crew's maiden voyage onboard the most advanced starship ever created: the U.S.S. Enterprise. On a journey filled with action, comedy and cosmic peril, the new recruits must find a way to stop an evil being whose mission of vengeance threatens all of mankind.

The fate of the galaxy rests in the hands of bitter rivals. One, James T. Kirk (Chris Pine), is a delinquent, thrill-seeking Iowa farm boy. The other, Spock (Zachary Quinto), was raised in a logic-based society that rejects all emotion. As fiery instinct clashes with calm reason, their unlikely but powerful partnership is the only thing capable of leading their crew through unimaginable danger . . . boldly going where no one has gone before!

First, I must confess I was not a diehard fan of Star Trek the television series. I watched episodes, but was really too young to appreciate it as a series.
Okay, it is the same for The Next Generation or Deep Space Nine. Again, I enjoyed many episodes but did not mark it on my calendar. I was, however, a big fan of the Star Trek movies - all 11! I'll never forget the Borg or the crew traveling through time. Some of my favorite science fiction.

I didn't know what to expect from Star Trek 2009. The set up/prologue was fair as it showed the death of Kirk's father and the roots of Captain’s name, James Tiberius Kirk. I loved the scene where a young Jim drives the car to the cliff. . .action at its best. But then I wanted to puke. The womanizing, drinking, brawling lost kid being invited to join the Starfleet Academy I put on my seatbelt anticipating cliché. That feeling subsided quickly though, as Jim Kirk does take some study/learning seriously.

I won't continue step by step through the movie, for, if you are reading beyond the spoiler banners you've probably seen the movie. I just have make sure to highlight one stand out scene. I think it is the most piercing and grand moments ever in Science Fiction Cinematography. It is near the end when the young Spock faces the older Spock from the future. I want you to know I do not cry easily, but this scene put a lump in my throat, tears stung my eyes. What wonderful thought to be able to go back and talk to your younger self -- especially for Spock when the "future is changing" --It was absolutely brilliant!

IF you made it through all that and haven't seen it - Go see it! You'll be so glad you did :)

Word Wednesday by KM Wilsher

No crossword puzzles, vocabulary or word games. Word Wednesday is "Word" discussion. It’s not a Bible study, sermon or deep devotional, just a place to reflect on a verse or passage that may have touched us this week.

Okay, maybe a word game. How about a Word game? I'm using an idea from Avily Jerome. She presents word games sometimes, and one of them is a lot like the one I'm going to post today. It's been fun, so I'd like to try it here --only with the Word of God.
Here it goes:

1. Open your Bible to whatever page it happens to open to.
2. On the right hand side of the page, find the third paragraph and first verse.
3. Type the scripture in with your comments.

Does it speak to you? I bet any page we open to speaks to us; and all scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching. I can't wait to see all of our posts together. Thank you in advance for playing!

I'll go first:
Daniel 3:28

Nebuchadnezzar responded and said, "Blessed be the (A)God of Shadrach, Meshach and Abed-nego, who has (B)sent His angel and delivered His servants who put their (C)trust in Him, violating the king's command, and yielded up their bodies so as (D)not to serve or worship any god except their own God.

In this day of "There are many paths to God" and temptation to allow the lines to blur between The One God and others, this verse is pretty poignant. I want to serve Jesus - The Gate, The Way. The God of Shadrach, Meshach and Abed-nego. What a great story they proclaim.

I hope you have time to play! Can't wait to see the your verse.

Sunshine on My Shoulders by KM Wilsher

I'm back! I rocked on my finals! Thanks for all your well-wishings!
Here is something from 2000 - So many nuances in this for/from me.

Sunshine on My Shoulders

“…not the life of one man only, but a lifetime burning in every moment…”
T.S. Elliot

It’s breathtaking the way the morning sun takes its time gaining possession of the morning sky. Like a child, barely able to see over the counter top, steals a look at the coveted cookie jar; in the same way, the sun’s light peeks over the sturdy mountain tops to steal a look at my Rocky Mountain, valley hideaway home. Not unlike a velvet curtain being pulled back at the start of a splendid theater production, one can nearly hear the applause as the sunlight, inch by inch, reveals jagged peaks, unveils golden Aspen trees, and eventually declares the valley’s full naked beauty. It is apparent to the eye that this canyon was created by receding waters; obvious that, when Jehovah spoke His word, the water was encouraged to dissipate and left rings --like bathtub rings-- tattooed on the bluffs.

From the elevated redwood deck on the backside of our white brick house I can feel the sunshine on my shoulders. My hometown of Durango perfectly sculptured on the valley floor beneath me. Hearing the morning wind wrestling through Pine trees, I simultaneously feel it caress my face with a talent only it possesses. It is a symphony of nature and man, when above the wind I hear the horn of the Narrow Gauge Train making its way through the tranquil town below me. Whoo-woo.

My younger sister sneaks up and yanks on my windblown tresses. I slug her nonchalantly. She yanks again, and I try to return the favor, reaching for her long brown braid. Missing, I resolve to win this battle by tackling her, throwing her onto the padded, redwood lawn chair. We giggle as we nearly fall off the other side. Recovering quickly, we begin to fight for position as sole inhabitant of the huge chair. Soon we give up and decide to share our throne on the deck --at least for now.

The sun seeps through the lacquered boards that make up the overhang, and I witness the dust particles doing their magnificent dance in their natural spotlight. My nose fills with the smells of bacon, and biscuits from the kitchen. The radio presents its melodies. Mom and Dad, preparing breakfast together, in two part harmony croon about a hotel in California. Then I begin to wonder: What do they mean, “You can check in any time you like, but you can never leave. . .”
