MONSTER by Frank Peretti / THE HOLIDAY SERIES

THE HOLIDAY SERIES
OCTOBER the month for BLOODCURDLING SCREAMS AND THE BIZARRE
BOOK REVIEW
MONSTER by Frank Peretti

Suspense. Science Fiction. Speculative. Spirituality. Perretti’s MONSTER has it all.

My synopsis:
Reed, a police officer, leads his wife, Beck, into the Idaho wilderness. She is not the outdoorsy type, and he desires to teach her the important things in life. Strength. Survival. Living without a curling iron or pedicure.

At first, the hike up is uneventful. Beck is fit and seems to keep up with her husband pretty well. However, once they reach a cabin in the middle of a gorgeous canyon, their whole world turns upside down. Someone or 'something' has ripped the cabin to shreds. Strange creatures lurk the forest about them. Horrid noises and smells fill the night air. A body hangs from a tree, or at least part of it. Then Beck is abducted by a huge, hairy creature and disappears.

Separated, the couple has no idea whether the other is dead or alive. They must hold on to their Faith and their love for each other to endure. True survival. Reed’s love for his wife will not let him give up until he finds Beck, even if he dies during the search.

A synopsis cannot give you all the clues to the treasures that lay in this book. Again, Perretti gives me characters that I absolutely adore. Much of MONSTER reads like a CSI-like novel, but he incorporates some unique creatures, adding an almost horror-film-like thriller quality. MONSTER includes the argument of Darwinism and Creationism, and subtle pointers to Jesus Christ. (And at times not so subtle – but, beautifully done.)

Monster is a fun ride. The first couple chapters had me hooked in a way I hadn’t been in a long time. It did slow up, especially at the end, but I enjoyed the twists and surprises. I think this is my favorite Frank Perretti so far.

If you get the chance, pick up MONSTER by Frank Perretti – for sure.

Love, love , love this book! A friend recommended it to me when I first started writing. I hadn't really read any Christian fiction before, so I had no idea who Peretti was. I've now read a slew of his books. Monster and The Oath are my faves.

This one's in my church library. When my Dad got a job as maintenance worker there, I decided to tag along with him to help. But every time we're done working I head to the library and read this book. I LOvE it so far! Monster books are among my faves. :)

Peretti has yet to write a book that hasn't interested me.
