CINEMA SOUND OFF with Lynn Rush and KM Wilsher

Welcome to Cinema Sound Off. We love movies!

My good friend and extraordinary writer, Lynn Rush

--and me, KM Wilsher-- visit the movies and we'll be sharing our reviews with you every

Season of the Witch

Synopsis from Fandango: A noble knight battles a wicked witch in a bid to save humanity from an ancient evil in this supernatural thriller starring Nicolas Cage and Ron Perlman. Upon returning to his home in Europe, crusading knight Behmen (Cage) finds his faith beginning to falter due to the brutality he's witnessed on the battlefield. The Black Plague has decimated the countryside, forcing Behmen and his loyal companion, Felson (Perlman), to seek sustenance and supplies at the Palace of Marburg. They're weary from war, but they're about to discover that their struggle is just beginning. Commanded by the moribund Cardinal to deliver a suspected witch to the abbey where her powers can be abolished, Behman accepts the assignment under the condition that the young peasant girl will receive a fair trial. The church believes the girl to be the one responsible for the Black Plague, and they may be right, too. As the two men and a small group of chaperones set out on their arduous mission, they quickly realize that their young charge is something more than human, and that they're about to face an evil beyond human comprehension.

KM’s Review:

Bravo to Director: Dominic Sena and Writer: Bragi F. Schut. I'm wondering if this is a book. I'd read it, even after seeing it on film. Bravo to the very real sense of evil and its darkness. No urban fantasy, bubblegum creatures in Season of the Witch. There is a horror feel to it. I like the story. I really do. I like the setting and the feel. And there are some real surprises. . .I enjoyed the unpredictable, the unique, and the almost absence of cliche.

Boo to the actors. . .but what can one expect from Perlman and Cage? (in these roles? they are great at their biker, white boy, trash talkin, american rolls. but fantasy?) How much did they pay the movie makers to allow them to play the part? I mean, if you are a street wise, east-coast accent, white-collar boy, do you think you could get a speech therepist to help you with some old language, and english accent. Its a real insult to the audience. . .I mean that a total insult.

Robert Sheehan was refreshing as the young, wanna be knight. He made the other actors easier to swallow. I'd like to see more from him. And Stephen Campbell Moore made a great priest. Very believable character arc!

There is a great story here, but I cannot, for any reason, suggest you pay good money at the theater. Rent it. Pay a dollar. . .better yet, does anyone know where I can get the book?

KM's rating:

2 tickets. See it. By yourself on DVD or Blue Ray.

Now, come with me and Catch the Rush. . .at http://www.lynnrush.com/ to see what Lynn Rush has to say.

What do you say? Have you seen it?
