THOR

IMDB SYNOPSIS:

Marvel Studios expands its film universe with a new type of superhero: THOR. This epic adventure spans the Marvel Universe; from present day Earth to the realm of Asgard. At the center of the story is The Mighty Thor, a powerful but arrogant warrior whose reckless actions reignite an ancient war. Thor is cast down to Earth and forced to live among humans as punishment. Once here, Thor learns what it takes to be a true hero when the most dangerous villain of his world sends the darkest forces of Asgard to invade Earth. Kenneth Branagh directs this fantasy epic which stars Australian actor Chris Hemsworth as the ancient Norse god, Tom Hiddleston as his chaotic brother Loki, Natalie Portman as Jane Foster, a young woman who befriends Thor on Earth, and Anthony Hopkins as Odin, Thor's father and king of Asgard. Expect to see agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., previously seen in ''Iron Man'' to make an appearance, further for shadowing the coming of The Avengers!

KM’s Review:

Story: B. I did like the plot of the story. A young, arrogant prince readies himself to become king. He yearns for the honor to carry his father's legacy. His overzealous nature gets him banished from his home and his chance to make his father proud. A little romance and lots of adventure.

**The story and humor in this film kept me entertained.**

Characters: B + Great characters. The geek-girl, Thor's love interest, is a believable and a strong female role model. Intelligent and kind.

Thor is likable. His youthful arrogance very believable.

All other supporting characters had depth and believability.

Actors: D. In my opinion, the two lead actors fell flat on their face. Chris Hemsworth, a Brad Pitt look-a-like on steroids, flubbed his English accent, and ran this role into the ground. He did okay in the beginning portraying Thor as an arrogant youth, but as the character grew, Hemsworth stumbled and flopped. His terrible accent was like fingernails on a chalkboard.

Natalie Portman had a few good moments, but she made the bad lines she was given, even worse.

Kat Dennings as Darcy- Loved her performance. Believable and fun. Not enough of this character/actress for me.

Anthony Hopkins as Odin and Renee Russo as Frigga~ Well, two masters trying to carry the whole film. . .good attempt you two, bravo!

Special effects: B Some good fight scenes and storm shots.

However, and I don't know if this cinematography or special effects, the digitally built cities in the 'other realms' were lazily crafted and cheap looking. It almost appeared as if the actors were standing in front of a painted backdrop. And, after 3 storms and a huge fire breathing giant, the magazine rack at the news stand remained neat and tidy. Despite the fact the town had been ripped to shreds.

Lack of cheesiness: F Just because its a comic book hero, doesn't mean we have to rely on cheesy lines and cliche'. Where was the freshness? The uniqueness?

Yeah, if you haven't seen THOR, just wait for it to come on DVD. Rent it for the story and the humor.
