THOR

IMDB SYNOPSIS:

Marvel Studios expands its film universe with a new type of superhero: THOR. This epic adventure spans the Marvel Universe; from present day Earth to the realm of Asgard. At the center of the story is The Mighty Thor, a powerful but arrogant warrior whose reckless actions reignite an ancient war. Thor is cast down to Earth and forced to live among humans as punishment. Once here, Thor learns what it takes to be a true hero when the most dangerous villain of his world sends the darkest forces of Asgard to invade Earth. Kenneth Branagh directs this fantasy epic which stars Australian actor Chris Hemsworth as the ancient Norse god, Tom Hiddleston as his chaotic brother Loki, Natalie Portman as Jane Foster, a young woman who befriends Thor on Earth, and Anthony Hopkins as Odin, Thor's father and king of Asgard. Expect to see agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., previously seen in ''Iron Man'' to make an appearance, further for shadowing the coming of The Avengers!

KM’s Review:

Story: B. I did like the plot of the story. A young, arrogant prince readies himself to become king. He yearns for the honor to carry his father's legacy. His overzealous nature gets him banished from his home and his chance to make his father proud. A little romance and lots of adventure.

**The story and humor in this film kept me entertained.**

Characters: B + Great characters. The geek-girl, Thor's love interest, is a believable and a strong female role model. Intelligent and kind.

Thor is likable. His youthful arrogance very believable.

All other supporting characters had depth and believability.

Actors: D. In my opinion, the two lead actors fell flat on their face. Chris Hemsworth, a Brad Pitt look-a-like on steroids, flubbed his English accent, and ran this role into the ground. He did okay in the beginning portraying Thor as an arrogant youth, but as the character grew, Hemsworth stumbled and flopped. His terrible accent was like fingernails on a chalkboard.

Natalie Portman had a few good moments, but she made the bad lines she was given, even worse.

Kat Dennings as Darcy- Loved her performance. Believable and fun. Not enough of this character/actress for me.

Anthony Hopkins as Odin and Renee Russo as Frigga~ Well, two masters trying to carry the whole film. . .good attempt you two, bravo!

Special effects: B Some good fight scenes and storm shots.

However, and I don't know if this cinematography or special effects, the digitally built cities in the 'other realms' were lazily crafted and cheap looking. It almost appeared as if the actors were standing in front of a painted backdrop. And, after 3 storms and a huge fire breathing giant, the magazine rack at the news stand remained neat and tidy. Despite the fact the town had been ripped to shreds.

Lack of cheesiness: F Just because its a comic book hero, doesn't mean we have to rely on cheesy lines and cliche'. Where was the freshness? The uniqueness?

Yeah, if you haven't seen THOR, just wait for it to come on DVD. Rent it for the story and the humor.

RED

FANDANGO SYNOPSIS: A group of former government assassins fights back against the CIA after they're targeted for knowing too much in this adaptation of Warren Ellis' acclaimed DC Comics graphic novels. Frank Moses (Bruce Willis) used to be a hired gun for the CIA. Along with Joe (Morgan Freeman), Marvin (John Malkovich), and Victoria (Helen Mirren), Frank's specialty was carrying out contracts that the government didn't want the public to know about. These days, Frank and his old gang are all retired, but the powers that be are still concerned that they know too much, and dispatch a team of top assassins to ensure their silence. Now, Frank and his former team members realize that their only hope for survival is to break into CIA headquarters and expose the truth. But once they're in, the group uncovers evidence of a massive cover-up that promises to rock the very foundation of our government. Karl Urban, Brian Cox, Richard Dreyfuss, and Ernest Borgnine co-star. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi

KM’s Review: RED, a fun ride! It moved along at a great pace. I never got bored. The laughs along the way and the dose of romance kept the drama fresh.

Bruce Willis does not dissapoint as Frank Moses in RED. He shined a little John McClane from Die Hard through this CIA agent character, but kept it fresh enough open your heart to this role. Frank Moses is charasmatic, romantic, and sexy! But he gives high spead car chases, a few dynamic special effects, and some cute, heart warming scenes with Mary-Louse Parker.

I was tickled by John Malkovich's character, a ex-overdrugged, overparanoid, ex-CIA. He made me laugh out loud! He is not even listed in the cast list on IMDB, what's up with that?

Helen Mirren kicked butt! Who says age steals strength, beauty, sex appeal and kick-butt female attitude! She's up there with Jolie, Hamilton, Moss. . .and she's 65 someone said!

Some great special effects and actions scenes. At one point, Frank Moses exits the car as it is spinning down the road. He lets it spin right by him, steps out of the way just in time and doesn't bat an eyelash or lose his swagger! I squealed with delight!

Rent RED. You won't be sorry.

Cinema Sound Off - I AM NUMBER FOUR

CINEMA SOUND OFF with Lynn Rush and KM Wilsher

I AM NUMBER FOUR

KM’s Review:
Okay, Paranormal fans, here's the scoop. This production was Killer with a capital K. (Do they say "killer" anymore? Well, Sik, Phat, you get the idea) Move over Avatar, Twilight (Okay, if you know me, I didn't like either of those movies anyway LOL)

Story. A+ The plot was intriguing and they wove the back story in without labor. Tid bits here and there that never took you out of the story.

Characters were dimensional.
Alex Pettyfer  ...         John
(The main character. Cute. 12, but cute. Alone John would have been just all right, but the following supporting characters make him 'out of this world.' * Warning, bad pun LOL)

Timothy Olyphant    ...       Henri
(John's protector. Wanted more from this character. I liked his cryptic warrior-ness, his protective fatherly-ness)

Teresa Palmer  ...         Number 6
(Okay, stopping here. This chick was one of the best kick-butt-chick characters ever!! Her 'gifts' were amazing, her style was cool, smooth! The writers, the production, the acting for Number 6? Impeccable!)

Dianna Agron ...         Sarah
(A lead female character with some depth. Sarah used to be the cool, stuck up chick, but fell from the 'in' crowd. Now she's a artsy loner.)

Callan McAuliffe        ...         Sam
(At the top of my list for geek characters! And I love my geeks. This guy is just plain fun!)

Special effects. A+ Transformers has nothing on I am Number Four. I am kinda speechless.Even the big, slimy creatures kept my attention!

Lack of cheesiness. B- I will say there was an element or two of cheesy with the villains, But cheesy in IAN4 is nothing like the mom or that gross little dog in Transformers, or the drawn-out-bubble-gum emo of Twilight.

There were some parts that left me wanting more. Like more of Timothy Olyphant's character Henri, but that's probably because I am 40 and the average age of this audience is probably, what 17?

I say: I am Number Four --- bring on Number 5! I am off to buy the book which is the first of a proposed 6 book series click here to read about it.

KM's rating:

5 tickets. A must see. Buy a ticket for everyone.

Top rating for a great flik! This is up there in my fav's of all time!!

Top two fictional characters 2010

Top two fictional characters 2010

Tony Stark

I love his flaws that are contrasted with his need to good, which really may be an arrogant adreniline rush or a good heart. Either way, I love Tony Stark!

Hiccup Horrendous Haddock III

I love Hiccup's extreme lack of self esteem which slowly, and brilliantly disappears after meeting a Night Fury!
