SUMMER SONGS
by KM Wilsher
Had a boyfriend once. (Yeah, know it’s hard to remember, but I have had boyfriends. . .it’s just a dry season) And he had this thing. He liked to pull the Billboard Music Charts for the week you were born and see what songs were released that week. They have all the charts at the library (let me know if you can find them online-I couldn’t)
My day in 1967 – “The Summer of Love” The “hippie” movement was supposedly started early that year. The Doors released LIGHT MY FIRE. The Monterrey International Festival in June would feature a new artist: Jimmy Hendrix.
However, the week I was born Van Morrison’s, BROWN EYED GIRL, hit the charts. (Is it a wonder I have brown eyes?)
What a summer to be born, yeah? The Summer of Love.
Do you know any songs from the year you were born? Lemme know! Next time you are at the library, check out the Billboard Charts!

Yeah, "Bridge Over Troubled Water" was a big hit the year I was born (1970)...I actually love Simon and Garfunkle, although this is not my fave song by them. "The Boxer" is much better. Both pretty much describe my life right now!
I'm gonna have to find The Boxer, Kat. I don't think I've heard that one.
You are the best. Hang in there, sister/kindred spirit :)
thanks for stopping by!
Jungle Boogie, Seasons in the Sun, The Joker, Band on the Run, Waterloo.
There is a Web site out there, too, that will tell you the name of the song that was No. 1 the week you were born, but I can't find it right now.
I love the songs from the year I was born. I'm going to be singing Waterloo all the way home now.
Wah, wah, wah, wah, wahterlooo, couldn't escape if I wanted to...
omg, gotta find waterloo now :)
I don't know it.
Know Joker and Band on the Run
This is fun!
I'll have to look for the website too, Kat! :)
Thanks for stopin by!
