I have some news this week.

I finished Cobra Cutlass A Novel by KM Wilsher.
If you have followed, you know that this was a short story I created for a ROGUE BLADES ENTERTAINMENT contest last spring. As my crit partners and writer friends read, they encouraged me to turn it into a novel.

Less than a year later, I am finished. Wha hoo!
Genesis (ACFW annual contest) here I come!

Stay tuned this week for a couple more tidbits about KM writing one page at a time!

MOVIE MONDAY : DISTRICT 9

Mmmm. I didn't like this movie. The blood, the senseless gore. The flashes back and forth from mock-documentary to story.
Don't get me wrong, I had to see it. I mean, science fiction, Peter Jackson, but I was not entertained.

I truly believe entertainment was not the goal of DISTRICT 9. I think the movie made some huge political statements, produced some sketches about the dark side of humanity, and made a small attempt at speculative special effects, but I did not find it entertaining.

I found nothing likeable about the main character: Wikus Van De Merwe. He was nervous and made bad decisions. He possesed no sense of humor, no heroism.
I found nothing likeable about the aliens, with their tentacles hanging and their tongues clicking. I am not sure I believed the special effects that made them.
I found no closure. Without giving the end away, I will ask, did it open for a sequel or just make a statement?

Maybe I am alone here, but I go to the movies to be inspired. I go to the movies to find joy and find hope for the good of mankind, which even sad movies stir inside us.

Aside from hints to the way that society treats each other. Sectioning of the unwanted in slums and impossiblity of climbing out of that way of life, why spend money on DISTRICT 9? I would have rather watched a documentary on inner city life and third world poverty. For then I may have been educated, or provoked to think about ways to help my fellow man.

Did you see it? What is your take on DISTRICT 9.

Top 10 minus 7 DINING

Top Ten Lists. "10 is easy, how about 3?!"

10 days of Top Ten Lists minus 7!

KM's top 3 favorite Restaurants.

Cheuvront, Phoenix, AZ. Atmosphere? Candlelight and "en vogue decor". This place has the most amazing fruit and cheese plate ($20) with cheeses from around the world and the freshest fruit you've ever tasted! I'd expect to find this restaurant near Times Square in New York, but here it is across from the famous Burton Barr Library downtown Phoenix, AZ, in the heart of the sleek city lofts.

Bar D, Durango, CO. Ever heard of the Sons of the Pioneers. Best harmony in 100 years. Great traditional cowboy folk music sung around the campfire for your entertainment. And you can't beat the chuck wagon supper served from the rear of a covered wagon.

The Fort, Denver, CO. - Vegetarians beware. The Fort. Frontier ambiance in a beautiful, preserved old western fort. The prices may be sky high but they are worth paying. The Fort serves up every type of wild game you can imagine. Rattler, Pheasant, Duck, Venison, Ostrich, you name it!

KM's top three "luxury can't do withouts".
laptop, frequent flyer number, electric toothbrush

Tell me, where do you like to dine?

KM's top 3 favorite female heroes of the bible.
Rahab, This hero was a prostitute. She hid the isrealite spies, then hung the scarlet cord in the window as a sign to the Isrealites that she believed, and later was in the lineage of Christ our Savior.
Joshua 6:25
But Joshua spared Rahab the prostitute, with her family and all who belonged to her, because she hid the men Joshua had sent as spies to Jericho—and she lives among the Israelites to this day.

Esther, Her uncle Mordecai, said this: "Do not think that because you are in the king's house you alone of all the Jews will escape. For if you remain silent at this time, relief and deliverance for the Jews will arise from another place, but you and your father's family will perish. And who knows but that you have come to royal position for such a time as this?"
Esther acted!

Lydia
Acts 16:14
One of those listening was a woman named Lydia, a dealer in purple cloth from the city of Thyatira, who was a worshiper of God. The Lord opened her heart to respond to Paul's message.

Hawkeye to Cora in The Last of the Mohicans

THE LAST OF THE MOHICANS
INTERIOR GLEN FALLS CAVE - CORA & HAWKEYE

She's holding him. In the rigid language of her body is the struggle to contain her fear.

HAWKEYE: [very close] If they don't kill you, they may take you north up into Canada. A warrior may take you for a wife.

[CORA turns aside. Hawkeye insists.]

HAWKEYE: [continues] Listen. Submit. You hear me? You're strong. You stay alive. I will find you ... no matter how far, how long it takes ...

CORA: [nods, low] ... never doubt what you are doing.

THE LORD OF THE RINGS
Gandalf to Frodo in Lord of the Rings

Frodo says: I wish the Ring had never come to me. I wish none of this had happened.
Gandalf says: So do all who live to see such times, but that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given to us. There are other forces at work in this world, Frodo, besides the will of evil.

THE BREAKFAST CLUB
Claire and Allison
Claire: You know, you look a lot better without all that black under your eyes.
Allison: Hey, I like all that black ... Why are you being so nice to me?
Claire: Because you're letting me.
(Of course there was another word in there ;0)
