SUMMER SONGS on BLOG DAYS OF SUMMER by KM Wilsher

BLOG DAYS OF SUMMER
SUMMER SONGS
by KM Wilsher

Had a boyfriend once. (Yeah, know it’s hard to remember, but I have had boyfriends. . .it’s just a dry season) And he had this thing. He liked to pull the Billboard Music Charts for the week you were born and see what songs were released that week. They have all the charts at the library (let me know if you can find them online-I couldn’t)
My day in 1967 – “The Summer of Love” The “hippie” movement was supposedly started early that year. The Doors released LIGHT MY FIRE. The Monterrey International Festival in June would feature a new artist: Jimmy Hendrix.
However, the week I was born Van Morrison’s, BROWN EYED GIRL, hit the charts. (Is it a wonder I have brown eyes?)

What a summer to be born, yeah? The Summer of Love.

Do you know any songs from the year you were born? Lemme know! Next time you are at the library, check out the Billboard Charts!

KAT HECKENBACH, BLOG DAYS OF SUMMER by KM Wilsher

BACK COVER BLURBS
Okay, as promised the back cover blurb for FINDING ANGEL by KAT HECKENBACH.

The story begins with thirteen-year-old Angel.

She doesn't know where she's from, but she knows she doesn't belong. With no one who understands her obsession for books about other worlds and magical creatures, Angel spends much of her time alone, immersed in the paper and ink worlds where she feels most comfortable. Despite a loving foster family, and a little brother who holds the most special place in her heart, she dreams of living in a land that could exist only in the pages of a fantasy novel.

Then she meets Gregor, who produces an indefinable sense of familiarity within her. The feeling comes to light when Gregor is forced to use his magic Talent to save Angel's life, reviving her memory of an attack seven years prior--the attack that produced her amnesia and stole her from her real parents.

Angel realizes she's been given a chance to discover her true identity, one that Gregor assures her includes a magic Talent of her own. She makes the hardest decision of her life, and follows Gregor to her homeland.

She experiences a world unlike any she has imagined, complete with Elven musicians who sing the message of the heavens, the story of creation, and the magical signature of its Creator. Everything she learns reinforces what she has always believed--true magic is a spiritual gift, infused into the soul, and designed by a divine hand.

While honing her powers, Angel must grapple with the consequences of her decisions. And soon she is well on her way along a path of self-discovery that leads directly to her role in an ancient Prophecy...*****************************

BLOG DAYS OF SUMMER
BACK COVER BLURBS
I’m studying “back cover blurbs” and short one line synopses. The goal of this research started out egocentric really. I needed to know all I could about good summaries for back covers, because I want an outstanding back cover blurb for my work in progress.
As I thumbed through great synopses written by both published and unpublished writers, I realized I knew some pretty awesome writers. Thus the idea for this series was born. Why not share these great writers with everyone? Why not dive into conversations with the great writers I know and soak in the knowledge!

I'm so excited to spotlight Kat Heckenbach. I met Kat Heckenbach through another ACFW member. A kindred spirit, Kat and I, both in Jesus Christ and in Fantasy/Science Fiction.

The BLOG DAYS OF SUMMER, however, is spotlighting her premier novel FINDING ANGEL.

Below is a little teaser for FINDING ANGEL by KAT HECKENBACH.

"If magic were real—and on Toch Island it is—it would have nothing to do with (as Severus Snape says) “foolish wand-waving and silly incantations,” and everything to do with stretching the boundaries of physical laws.

But would your abilities be genetically determined?

Or…are they part of your soul?"

REGARDING HARRY POTTER

BLOG DAYS OF SUMMER "SUMMER MOVIES"
REGARDING HARRY POTTER
I ran into this post by Travis Inman and asked him if I could reference it here. I love what he has to say. Please click on the title below and read his post. (While you are there, check out his novel WHEN LOVE CALLS)

Just some of my thoughts on Harry Potter:
I have always felt drawn to Harry Potter by JK Rowling because it is a tale of good versus evil.
For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. Ephesians 6:12
I know the Potter world is not spiritual and I know it is dark, but the very thought that the reason Harry was not hurt by Voldemort’s curse is because of his "mother's love". . . well I like that message. Saved by Love.

And now the back cover "blurb" for SKY CHRONICLES WHEN THE SKY FELL by Mike Lynch and Brandon Barr.

The year is 2217 and a fleet of stellar cruisers led by Commander Frank Yamane are about to come face to face with humanity’s greatest threat—the Deravan armada. Outnumbered, outclassed, and outgunned, Yamane’s plan for stopping them fails; leaving all of humanity at the mercy of an enemy that has shown them none.

Faced with the planet’s imminent destruction, Commander Yamane has no choice but to seek the help of the Antarans, an alien civilization he had defeated in a war a decade before. Though they have every reason not to come to Earth’s rescue, Yamane sets forth on a desperate journey to the Antaran home world, knowing that the survival of mankind is hanging by a thread.

Follow the adventures of Commander Frank Yamane and his crew as they struggle to determine whether this will be Earth’s finest hour, or the destruction of us all.

If you've read my blog more than just a couple times, you won't be surprised WHEN THE SKY FELL is up next in this 2009 summer series. I've posted a lot about this novel and the authors: MIKE LYNCH and BRANDON BARR - (click on their names to read more about them and their blogs)
Click here to read my initial review of the first two chapters.

I'm reading this book and I'm starting to get endeared to the characters and the pages are making me want to know what's going to happen next.

WTSF is pure science fiction with lots of techy stuff! There is plenty of passages that make one think of the Great God who created this earth and the skys and stars and the planets. The characters face big decisions that make them reach down and ask themselves: What kind of person am I?

Here's WTSF's great oneliner:

Since the dawn of time, an ancient evil has sought complete and unquestioned dominion over the galaxy, and they have found...us.

Here is the promo for Rebecca Bruner's MARY'S PERFUME.

This compelling story is told from the point of view of Mary, the sister of Martha and Lazarus, a woman who sat at the feet of Jesus. In scripture, she is introduced to us as “…that Mary who anointed the Lord with fragrant oil and wiped His feet with her hair…,”(John 11:2), and Jesus tells His disciples that, “…wherever the gospel is preached in the whole world, what this woman has done will also be told in memorial to her,”(Mark 14:9). “Mary’s Perfume,” takes us inside her heart and mind as she moves from fascination with Jesus, through doubt and disappointment, to the foreshadowing of His suffering and the realization that He will is worthy of all she has to offer, and more.

I love this one, hope you do too! (Read below for more information on Rebecca Bruner, Mary's Perfume, and how to get a copy!)

Up this week, Mary's Perfume by Rebecca Bruner.

Rebecca Bruner, a member of Christian Writers of the West -- the Arizona Chapter of American Christian Fiction Writers -- she is a brilliant writer. When I read Mary's Perfume, I could feel the emotion, taste the salty air, and smell the aroma as if the events were unfolding in front of me.

Here is the one liner:
+++++++++++++
Mary knew she could not prevent Jesus' approaching agony, but what could she do to express her love and gratitude to the one who was about to suffer so much on her behalf?
++++++++++++
Rebecca Bruner has done several public readings of Mary's Perfume. Keep an eye out for another one in your area.

Mary's Perfume is a story that will inspire people to have a deeper love for Jesus. If anyone is interested in ordering a copy for $5, let me know. I'll get with her and order it.

Come back tomorrow and read her promo/back cover blurb!

Up this week: Michelle Gregory! And her novel Eldala ~ Published in 2007 Michelle is a fellow member of Christian Writers of the West, the chapter of American Christian Fiction Writers here in Arizona. I love her passion for encouraging and cultivating other writers, especially young writers. I’ve heard her speak and she is compelling and her love for Jesus Christ is compelling.
Here is how Michelle describes herself:
My name is Michelle Gregory. I am a mom of three, married to a wonderful man, and trying to fit writing into a life filled with taekwondo, doctor appointments, church, and homeschooling my kids. Before 2005, I had no idea that I wanted to write, or that I even had a story in me. Since writing my first novel, I’ve discovered that I have many stories inside me, all clamoring for my attention.
Her first novel: Eldala was created with much help from her children, it’s a family project. You have to pick up this book.
Quote from the back cover:

You now have a choice, and it will take great courage to choose the right. From this moment on, you will be walking the path between who you are now and who you were born to be. All I’m asking you to do is let yourself make the journey. ~Arathor
